By the Pool

By the Pool

Glass in hand, smiling, slightly tanned,
Welcome nibbles, friendly animal dribbles.
Work the crowd, music too loud
Party by the Pool.

A seat for Dad, debating, with the local lad,
Bar-b-que sauce, safety rules enforce.
Mingle round, distant cousin found
Party by the Pool.

Champers tall glass, confessing, tomorrow at Mas,
Garlands flickering, relatives bickering.
Play the hostess, conversations engross us
Party by the Pool.

Swimsuits ready, inebriating, neighbour unsteady,
Canapes with mushroom, squeezing in not so much room.
Network with friend, but after all in the end
Party IN the pool.
